Slide Show: What I ate on my summer vacation

We take our work seriously. So, wherever we were this summer, we ate. A lot.  Bonny Wolf was in Maine. Carol Guensburg was all over the place — in Wisconsin, North Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky and Texas. Michele Kayal went to Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire, and Domenica Marchetti did her eating in Michigan and Connecticut. We offer our snapshots of American summer foods, all of which are by us unless otherwise noted. We’d love to see your photos, or hear your stories about what you ate where.

Any feature titled “what I ate on my summer vacation” goes to the heart!
Also had my first soft-shell lobster — yup, perhaps a little sweeter. But mostly have been OD-ing on wild Maine blueberries. The last bunch was harvested Labor Day, but these little gems freeze beautifully, and if you drop them frozen into pancake batter, they just pop with flavor.

Helen’s brings back memories. Is it still known for its strawberry pie? I was introduced to the place in the mid 70s and it was an institution then.

There was no strawberry pie when I was there (but it was blueberry season) but I saw it mentioned on the menu and in articles posted on the wall. If it’s as good as the blueberry pie, it must be spectacular. Loved this place.
